Sorc'henn - Gula Guten

Sorc'henn
Gula Guten (Snapped In Half siht22)
CDr edition of 40 hand-numbered copies

Quite different from Silvestrig, Gula Guten is equally impressive. It includes what seems to be dialogs from an old Swedish movie, but it could be anything else for that matter. Once again the overall mood is dark but we have left the woods for more industrial landscapes.

Sorc'henn continues with his obsession for goats on both titles, and the great title for track 2 is 'Drunk With The Old Goat On The Mountain' : Nurse With Wound fans will appreciate! (And they'll surely dig the music too!).

A perfect soundtrack for a movie by David Lynch yet to be made (and probably one of his scariest...)

Released on Snapped In Half, it seems that it is still available at the source : you know what to do...

Sorc'henn - Silvestrig

Sorc'henn
Silvestrig (Tavarn Keben bes44)
CDr edition of 71

My first in a series of Sorc'henn posts, Silvestrig is one long track (actually not called Silvestrig but Grand Goat-Heads Processing Choir and it makes more sense). It reminds me of some William Basinski's work, quite minimal and repetitive but carrying a lot of feeling and conjuring vivid images. You can easily imagine you're lost in some strange forest and you chance upon a equally strange ritual performed by goat-headed individuals... if you get my meaning.

Plainly said, it's really darn good music, buy a copy if you find one, you won't be disappointed!

Sorc'henn is Laurent B. main project, and Silvestrig was released on his own Tavarn Keben label in 2008. More to follow.

Ajilvsga / Pine Smoke Lodge - Lighting The Qulliq vol. 2

Ajilvsga / Pine Smoke Lodge
Lighting The Qulliq vol. 2 (Existential Cloth Recordings, 2009)
CDr edition of 25

Did I say that I really don't like split releases...? Well, for a change, this one is great! It just flows nicely from Pine Smoke Lodge titles to Ajilsga : you can make the difference obviously, but everything fits in place and stays in the same mood.
This release sure makes me want to listen to more Pine Smoke Lodge (Lighting The Qulliq Vol. 1 & 3 are available). Nice black digipack with gloomy insert (can't get enough of mummified Indian corpses, or can I?...)

Existential Cloth Recordings only have a myspace page, here it is.

November is gone...

... and I didn't even post once!

Hopefully December will find me less busy, so I can resume my irregular posting. I still haven't found the time to rip some more cassettes, in fact I have hours of music that I haven't listened to yet!

Next upload should be Lighting The Qulliq Vol. 2, and some time in the not too far future, Purple and Silver Crow by Ajilvsga, and maybe half a dozen Sorc'henn releases...

Soon.

I promise.

Well, I hope.

Ajilvsga - Earth Lodge

Ajilvsga
Earth Lodge (Not Not Fun Records NNF097)
2xCS edition of 100 numbered copies

A two-cassette set on Not Not Fun. Seriously one of the best Ajilvsga releases. Great artwork two with a real dry leave. Nothing more to add, just listen to it!

Not my rip, too lazy to rip my own copy...

Update : there is a gap (about 10 seconds of silence) in the first track. Maybe there are more problems with those files. I prefer to remove the link, it seems I'll have to rip my own cassettes after all...

Ajilvsga - Red Crow

Ajilvsga
Red Crow (Digitalis Limited / Peyote Tapes)
C32 edition of 13

Very, very limited (13 copies!), this tape was a tour only edition sold at a show on November 13th, 2008 at "The Monolith" with Peaking Light & Language Of Light.

First instalment in the 'insert-colour-here' Crow and the most limited of the series, co-released by Digitalis Limited (Brad's label) and Peyote Tapes (Nathan's label).

It was re-released on vinyl in 2009 via the Amethyst Sunset label. Some copies are still available, so run for it!

I haven't managed (yet) to get a copy of the original tape (but I'm waiting for the vinyl) so this isn't my rip. I got the files again from borxes (behind the always excellent akteon blog). Thanks to both borxes and the original poster, whoever he was...

Ajilvsga - Blue Crow

Ajilvsga
Blue Crow (Digitalis Limited / Peyote Tapes)
C30 edition of 17

Very limited again (17 copies!), this tape was a tour only edition sold at a show on February 23rd at "The Monolith" with Black Guys & Sabertooth Cavity. Some copies were later sold by Brad Rose and I managed to get one...
This is the second instalment in the 'insert-colour-here' Crow after Red and were all co-released by Digitalis Limited (Brad's label) and Peyote Tapes (Nathan's label).

I haven't managed (yet) to get a copy so this isn't my rip. I got the files from borxes (behind the ever excellent akteon blog). Thanks to both borxes and the original poster, whoever he was...

Eagle Altar - The Life Of Bridgette Driscol

Eagle Altar
The Life Of Bridgette Driscol (Kimberly Dawn KimDawn014 - 2009)
3" CDR Numbered edition of 50, with hand-scrawled CDR, OOP

Did I mention that I've always had a soft spot for 3" CDs?

Brad Rose with his wife Eden Hemming under their Eagle Altar moniker (not to be mistaken for Altar Eagle which is Eden Hemming with Brad Rose...). This lovely 3" CDR, with Eagle Altar hand-scrawled all over in golden ink, is unfortunately already out-of-print at the source the small Kimberly Dawn label (even though it was released only 3 weeks ago...). Great 18-minute track, as is to be expected from a Brad Rose project! Eden is not singing on this one (it is one of the differences with Altar Eagle, or Corsican Paintbrush, or other collaborations between husband and wife), but it has a nice drum-machine loop in the background.

Ajilvsga - Last Of The White Buffalo

Ajilvsga
Last Of The White Buffalo (Abandon Ship Records ASR039 - 2008)
C28 Edition of 100, OOP

A nice one, released by Abandon Ship Records in 2008 like Winter Hunt. This is less epic than Winter Hunt (it is twice as short anyway), but it is nice and rhythmic however.

Ajilvsga - White Crow

Ajilvsga
White Crow (Blackest Rainbow - 2009)
C42 Edition of 100, OOP

One of the latest Ajilvsga releases, on the ever consistently good Blackest Rainbow (recently of fame for the latest Natural Snow Building 3xLP, 2xCD and zine).
The only 'Crow-of-many-colours' not released by Digitalis / Peyote Tapes to the great advantage of being an edition of 100 instead of the usual 20-something... It's already out-of-print at the source though.

Ajilvsga - The Black Mouth Society

Ajilvsga
The Black Mouth Society (Tavarn Keben bes34 - 2009)
C60 Edition of 60 hand-numbered copies with hand-made cover

The A-side of this tape, The Black-Tailed Deer, is without doubt my favourite Ajilvsga track (at the moment anyway...). Everything is perfect with this release : 2 great long tracks, superb artwork (if not very convenient), it's released on Laurent/Sorc'henn excellent label Tavarn Keben and last but not least it's recorded on orange cassettes (who can resist orange!).

For once, this one is still available at the source, but I couldn't wait to share it with you : I'm sure more than one will buy it after listening to those mp3s!

BUY it!

Jonathan Coleclough & Murmer - Nevill #6

Jonathan Coleclough & Murmer
Nevill #6/47 (ICR ICR59 - 2006)
CDR edition of 1

Yep, a unique CDR in an edition of 1!
The story behind this : when ICR released Husk by Coleclough & Murmer, they had a special mail-order edition of 200 copies with a bonus CD, and a special-special edition of 47 with an extra CDR (only 25 for sale) and I managed to get #6. Lucky me! This CDR states 'each copy has a unique piece of music and a unique cover'. It's a processed field-recording using sounds of Nevill Road, London, recorded 19 & 20 april 2006.
That makes it probably the rarest item in my music collection (I have other releases with unique artwork, but that is the only one with unique music!)

Oh, I forgot to tell you it is only 5 minutes long, I guess it could not have been a full album, could it?

If ever you have another copy of Nevill, please post a link somewhere, that would be great to get to hear as many of them as possible!

Ajilvsga - From The Black River To The Dead Sea

Ajilvsga
From The Black River To The Dead Sea (Music Your Mind Will Love You Mymwly0036 - 2005)
CDR, OOP

An early Ajilvsga release (the earliest, at least according to Discogs) on the sadly defunct Music Your Mind Will Love You (I love that name!). Not the best Ajilvsga release, but still worth listening to. And it's on CDR, and as much as I like cassettes, this is a far more convenient format (come on, throw me the first stone!).
I should have taken a picture of the whole handmade artwork, but I told you I was lazy...

Ajilvsga / Capricorn Wings - Rights Of The Solemn Ceremonies

Ajilvsga / Capricorn Wings
Rights Of The Solemn Ceremonies (Goaty Tapes, 2008)
C58 edition of 100

I don't really like split releases... This one is no exception : I like the Ajilvsga side, but the other one is just barely OK. Don't know much about Capricorn Wings but they are French and have another tape out on Abandon Ship Records, so I guess they can't be all wrong!.
t would have made a nice C30 with the two Ajilvsga tracks, but at least with mp3 files you don't have to rewind to skip the unwanted track.
Fancy hand-cut labels à la Goaty Tapes.

The North Sea - Underneath The Jesus Tree

The North Sea
Underneath The Jesus Tree (Barl Fire Recordings BFR013 - 2006)
CDR Edition of 200

Brad Rose solo for a change, under his The North Sea moniker. This is relatively early The North Sea (2006), that means more acoustic folky songs, complete with voclas, bird chirps and guitar strumming, quite far from the sound of today... It's great anyway, as everything Brad Rose touches.

Ajilvsga - Winter Hunt

Ajilvsga
Winter Hunt (Abandon Ship Records ASR027 - 2008)
C50 Edition of 100, OOP

Three track cassette released by Abandon Ship Records in 2008. This is without doubt one of my favourite Ajilvsga release. I'm sure you'll enjoy it as much as I do.

Period Disc 2 is alive!

I've posted a new link for Jonathan Coleclough's Period limited second CD. If you're interested, just go back a couple of posts...

Ajilvsga - White Path / Red Path - new rip

Ajilvsga
White Path / Red Path (PM31 - 2008)
C40 Edition of 100, OOP

Thick clouds of swirling electronics, walls of distortion, phased guitars, tar, and electricity riveted together for one of the heaviest and densest Ajilvsga recordings to date. Melodies briefly stumble to the surface, only to be turned inside out by the chaos. High bias chrome tapes with 4 panel J-card and obi.
This cassette was released by Peasant Magik

I've made a (hopefully) better rip than before, here it is :

Ajilvsga - Archived Bones

Ajilvsga
Archived Bones (Dial Square Tapes DSQ001)
C21 edition of 20

Very limited again (20 copies only too), this is some 'older' material from 2007 release on the even-more-limited-than-Digitalis Limited Brad Rose label, Dial Square Tapes.
It will make your bones rattle indeed...

Ajilvsga - White Sky Monster

Ajilvsga
White Sky Monster (Open Range Records ORR-017
)
C32 edition of 50 hand-numbered copies

Tape in hand-made stapled felt packaging, with hand-numbered insert. It's a bit cheap looking in my opinion, but the translucent green tape is nice and the music is Ajilvsga at its best. On the quite obscure Open Range Records label (but they have also released one of the first Sean McCann, Boomerangutan, so they seem to be worth checking out, aren't they?).

Ajilvsga - Gathering Of Owls

Ajilvsga
Gathering Of Owls (Digitalis Limited ltd#6
)
C42 edition of 72 hand-numbered copies

I had quite a difficult time finding this one (got it on f* e-bay...), so it's one of my favourites. The artwork is pure Ajilvsga with the undecipherable black-metally logo. Pure drone-noise bliss.

Ajilvsga - Green Crow

Ajilvsga
Green Crow (Digitalis Limited / Peyote Tapes)
C33 edition of 20

Very limited (20 copies!), this tape was a tour only edition sold at a show on March 23rd at "The Monolith" with Barn Owl & Language Of Light. Some copies were later sold by Brad Rose and I managed to get one...
It is the third instalment in the 'insert-colour-here' Crow after Red and Blue which were even more limited and are all co-released by Digitalis Limited (Brad's label) and Peyote Tapes (Nathan's label).
Simple artwork but great music!

Lazier than ever...

I've finally found the time and courage to rip some out-of-print Ajilvsga tapes. So you can expect (finally and hopefully) a proper update of my dormant blog...

For now i have posted a new link for White Path / Red Path below, and I'll fix the other ones later.

... later : new links posted (with new rips @ 256k) for Monos and Andrew Liles

...and later still : new link for the Christoph Heemann.

Andrew Liles - Iron Lung - Glass Bones

Andrew Liles
Iron Lung - Glass Bones (Twisted Knister FLUPP016 - 2007)
Business Card CDR, edition of 40 in cigarette box

A real gem this time, with a (short) track by Andrew Liles in a very unusual edition. The CDR is of the "business card" type, inserted in a cardboard box, the size and shape of a packet of cigarette, complete with a health warning : "www.andrewliles.com causes fatal heart and lung diseases". To make things even better, the 40 copies were available exclusively in selected cigarette machines in Bremen, Germany as part of the Twisted Knister Automatenmusik-Mikrogalerie. (In fact I got my copy directly from Mr Liles, I'm a real cheat...). Enjoy!

New rip @ 256 kbps :

I told you I was lazy...

I am ashamed of my lack of updates. I have a lot of music I could post (including a bunch of recent and already out-of-print Ajilvsga tapes), but I haven't found the time (or courage) yet...
I promise I'll post more soon!
